Description:
High-quality SKF 99386 CR Axle Repair / Seal designed to help restore proper sealing surfaces and improve sealing performance in axle applications. Built for dependable operation and long service life, this repair solution is suitable for automotive and industrial applications where worn shaft surfaces can cause leakage and premature seal failure.

Features:

Designed for axle repair and sealing applications

Helps restore sealing surface integrity

Reliable SKF quality

Suitable for repair and maintenance work

Durable construction for long service life

Common Applications:
Suitable for axle repair, shaft surface restoration, and seal replacement applications in automotive, commercial vehicle, and industrial equipment systems.

SPEEDI-SLEEVE

The SKF SPEEDI-SLEEVE offers a quick and efficient solution to restore worn shafts. Faster than demetallizing or regrinding, it enhances the sealing system by creating an ideal surface for seals. In contrast to many common regrinding methods—which often yield surfaces that are difficult to seal—the outside finish of a SPEEDI-SLEEVE is optimized for this purpose.

With a standard size range accommodating shafts from 12 mm to 200 mm (.472” to 8”), each sleeve is made of high-grade stainless steel, is only 0.28 mm (0.011”) thick, and features a wear-resistant surface with a finish of Ra 0.25–0.5 µm (10–20 µin). Installation requires no expensive preparation or machining—just a few minutes reduces downtime significantly.

These thin-walled stainless steel sleeves are a reliable fix when a crankshaft needs a renewed sealing surface. Not only do they cost less, but installation is fast and straightforward, producing a surface harder than a new shaft. The same size seal as the original will fit snugly over the newly restored surface, and every SPEEDI-SLEEVE comes with a disposable installation tool.

Though the installation process is simple, care and attention are required to ensure optimal results. Every kit includes an installation tool.

# How to Install an SKF SPEEDI-SLEEVE

Clean the seal counter face on the shaft and smooth out any burrs or rough spots.

Measure the diameter at the location where the sleeve will be positioned, averaging readings from three different points to confirm it meets specifications. If measurements are within the recommended range, the sleeve will press-fit securely without the need for adhesive.

Determine and mark the exact position for the sleeve so it covers the worn area rather than just sitting flush with the shaft end.

Shallow grooves don’t require filling; optionally apply a light coat of non-hardening sealant inside the sleeve if desired, but remove any excess.

For deep scoring, fill grooves with a powdered metal epoxy before installing the sleeve, allowing installation to wipe away any surplus. Clean off residual filler from the outside surface.

Position the flange end first onto the shaft, then use the provided installation tool to fit the sleeve.

Gently tap the center of the tool until the sleeve fully covers the worn section. If needed, use a similarly sized pipe or tubing with a smooth, squared-off edge. Avoid scratching the precision ground surface.

Leave the flange intact unless necessary for clearance. If removal is required, cut along the tear-off groove with metal shears, bend or twist the flange off, being careful not to damage the sleeve.

After installation, check for burrs again.

Lubricate the sleeve with the appropriate medium prior to installing the seal.

Proceed with mounting the seal.

# Determining the Correct Size

Clean the shaft thoroughly and measure the undamaged section of the seal counter face at least three times along different planes. Use the average value to select the correct SKF Sepedi-Sleeve size. If your measurement falls within the permissible product table range, the sleeve will fit tightly without needing adhesive.

1 Clean the seal counter surface on the shaft. File down any burrs or rough spots.

2 Measure the diameter where the sleeve will be positioned on an unworn portion of the shaft.
3 Determine where the sleeve must be positioned to cover the seal wear track. Measure to the exact point, or mark directly on the surface. The sleeve must be placed over the worn area, not just bottomed or left flush with the end of the shaft.

4 Shallow wear grooves do not require filling. Optionally, a light layer of a non-hardening sealant, e.g. Loctite 209, can be applied to the inside diameter surface of the sleeve. Clean away sealant that migrates to the shaft or sleeve outside diameter surface.

5 If the shaft is deeply scored, fill the groove with a powdered metal epoxy type filler. Install the sleeve before the filler hardens, allowing the sleeve to wipe off any excess filler. Clean away any remaining filler from the sleeve outside diameter surface.

6 The flange end of the sleeve goes on the shaft first. Then place the installation tool over the sleeve.

7 Gently tap the center of the installation tool until the sleeve covers the seal worn surface.
8 Leave the flange intact unless clearance is needed. If the flange is to be removed cut the flange perpendicular to the tear-off groove with a metal shear. Cut only into the tear-off groove, not onto the finished sleeve surface. After positioning the sleeve, use standard pliers to bend the flange back and forth around its circumference and along the shaft axis. The flange will break loose along the tear-off groove. Alternately, grasp the flange away from the seal surface and twist it into a coil.

9 After the sleeve is installed, check again for burrs, which could damage the seal.
